Sealand Cup 2014

In amongst the remains of a post-match sausage casserole, the draw for the 2014 Sealand Cup was made on Saturday in the Boars Head public house in Northop Hall.
For the first time in three years ten teams have entered the competition, the names in the hat – well, empty margarine tub – being:
- Wirral Vets (Defending Champions)
- Convocation
- Halkyn
- Halton Castle Nomads
- Liverpool Ramblers
- Northop Hall Nomads
- Northop Hall Old Boys
- Radbroke Hall
- Rhewl Vets
- Warrington Croft
As usual the teams were split into two groups – with all the efficiency you might expect of a UEFA draw, Martin, the Captain of Northop Hall Nomads picked out the teams for Group A, while “minor celebrity” Simon O’Brien drew those to go into Group B; Paul Dickson translated whenever needed. To the accompaniment of occasional gasps from the watching boozers the teams came out in the following order:

It has been a difficult job in arranging the fixtures; for example the two Northop Hall teams can’t play at home on the same weekend and Halton Nomads don’t have a home pitch. The other issue is that we did say that the competition would start in April which means that we will run well into May. I would ask if teams are free on 29 March, please feel free to bring a fixture forward ensuring you let us know.
